Hoe houd je knitwear het langste mooi?

How do you keep knitwear looking great the longest?

How to Keep Knitwear Beautiful the Longest
Knitwear is an essential part of a stylish wardrobe. Luxurious sweaters, half-zips and turtlenecks provide warmth and a sophisticated look. But how do you make sure your knitwear stays beautiful and doesn't pill or warp? With proper care, you'll significantly extend the life of your favorite garments. Here are the most important tips.

1. Wash Knitwear On Low RPM and Inside Out
Knitwear is prone to wear and tear in the washing machine. To keep your sweaters in top condition:

Use a delicate wash cycle and wash at up to 30 degrees.

Put the spin cycle on low speed (maximum 600 rpm) to avoid wear and tear.

Always spin knitwear inside out to reduce friction and lint.

2. Choose the right detergent
Normal detergents can damage the fibers of knitwear. Always use a mild, wool-friendly detergent, preferably without harsh chemicals. Fabric softener is not necessary and can actually weaken the fabric.

3. Handwash for Extra Soft Treatment.
For delicate materials such as merino wool or cashmere, hand washing is the best option. Use lukewarm water, add a small amount of wool detergent and soak the garment for up to 10 minutes. Rinse gently without wringing.

4. Lay Down Drying to Prevent Distortion
Never hang knitwear after washing! The weight of the water can stretch the fabric. Lay the garment flat on a clean towel and let it dry at room temperature, out of direct sunlight and away from a radiator.

5. Preventing and Removing Pilling
Small lint (pilling) occurs due to friction, but is easily removed with a wool comb or lint clipper. Regularly wearing knitwear inside out and washing it carefully will keep the fabric looking nice longer.

6. Proper Storage for Long-Lasting Quality
Store knitwear folded rather than hung. Hangers can stretch the shoulders and change the shape. Use cotton storage bags to repel dust and moths, and place a natural anti-moth agent such as cedar in your closet.

Conclusion
With proper care, your knitwear will stay in top condition for years. Wash on low rpm, use mild detergent, lie dry and store your sweaters correctly. By following these simple steps, you will enjoy luxurious and comfortable knitwear for an extra long time!
