How do you remove a stain from clothing?
A stain in your favorite piece of clothing? Don't panic! With the right approach, chances are you can remove the stain completely. Whether it's a coffee stain, red wine or grease splatter, there is a solution for every stain. Follow these steps and save your clothes.
1. Act quickly
The faster you act, the more likely the stain will not soak into the fabric. Dab the stain immediately with a clean cloth or kitchen paper. Rubbing can actually make the stain worse, so avoid that!
2. Rinse with cold water
For most stains, it helps to hold the fabric directly under cold running water. Warm water can actually allow the stain to soak in, especially with high-protein stains such as blood or milk.
3. Use an appropriate remedy
Different stains call for different methods. Here are some common solutions:
Grease stains: Sprinkle the stain with talcum powder or cornstarch and let it soak in for a while. Then brush it away and wash the garment as usual.
Red wine: Dab the stain with white wine or sparkling water and sprinkle with salt. Let it soak in and then rinse.
Coffee or tea: Use a mixture of water and a little detergent. Dab gently and rinse with cold water.
Blood: Cold water and a little salt or a touch of hydrogen peroxide often help the stain disappear.
4. Pretreat before washing
Use a stain remover or a little detergent directly on the stain before you put the garment in the washing machine. Leave it on for a few minutes for best results.
5. Wash according to the laundry label
Always check the laundry label of your clothes. Washing too hot can actually aggravate some stains or damage the fabric. Choose the right program and use a good detergent.
6. Checking after washing
Do not put the garment in the dryer immediately after washing. First check that the stain is completely gone. Heat can permanently bake the stain into the fabric. If not? Repeat the treatment and wash it again.
With these steps, chances are your favorite garment will be like new again. Want to enjoy high-quality clothing longer? Then choose quality materials like Vercate's collections!
